Another Veronica Roth novel is heading to the big screen!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Eric Feig-led media company, Picturestart, has officially picked up the rights to The Chosen Ones— the highly anticipated forthcoming novel from young adult author Veronica Roth.
Roth, of course, is no stranger to having her books turned into films. She’s also the author of the bestselling Divergent saga– a series of dystopian novels that spawned three films. Starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James, Allegiant (the last movie in the series) hit the big screen in March 2016.
That Roth is once again partnering with Feig is especially fitting given his connection to Divergent. The Picturestart helmer previously served as the head of Summit Entertainment (the studio that brought fans adaptations of Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant). Feig was also pivotal in acquiring the rights to Roth’s hit dystopian series back when the movie was first greenlit.
Others already involved behind the scenes include fellow Divergent producers Pouya Shahbazian and Lucy Kitada. Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner will also serve as producers via Temple Hill, in addition to Veronica Roth herself, who will also be billed as a producer on the adaptation.
So what can fans expect from Chosen Ones? Set to be released on Tuesday (April 7), the book marks Roth’s first foray into adult fiction. (And *spoiler alert*, we loved it.) You can read our review of Chosen Ones here.
Like Divergent, Chosen Ones falls within the realm of the science fiction genre. Check out the official synopsis for Veronica Roth’s new novel below!
Fifteen years ago, five ordinary teenagers were singled out by a prophecy to take down an impossibly powerful entity wreaking havoc across North America. He was known as the Dark One, and his weapon of choice—catastrophic events known as Drains—leveled cities and claimed thousands of lives. Chosen Ones, as the teens were known, gave everything they had to defeat him.
After the Dark One fell, the world went back to normal . . . for everyone but them. After all, what do you do when you’re the most famous people on Earth, your only education was in magical destruction, and your purpose in life is now fulfilled?
Of the five, Sloane has had the hardest time adjusting. Everyone else blames the PTSD—and her huge attitude problem—but really, she’s hiding secrets from them . . . secrets that keep her tied to the past and alienate her from the only four people in the world who understand her.
On the tenth anniversary of the Dark One’s defeat, something unthinkable happens: one of the Chosen Ones dies. When the others gather for the funeral, they discover the Dark One’s ultimate goal was much bigger than they, the government, or even prophecy could have foretold—bigger than the world itself.
And this time, fighting back might take more than Sloane has to give.
Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth hits store shelves on Tuesday, April 7.
