Only a month to go, Legacies fans! Season 2 premieres Thursday, October 10th at 9/8C on the CW.

‘Legacies’ season 2 official synopsis

Last season, viewers were thrilled to tap into a whole new passion for “The Vampire Diaries” / “The Originals” universe, when the third installment in the franchise launched with LEGACIES. Set in the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted, LEGACIES told the story of the next generation of supernatural beings as they learn what it means to be special in a world that may never understand. Typically a school for vampires like MG (Quincy Fouse), werewolves like Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) and witches like twins Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Josie Saltzman (Kaylee Bryant), the kids and their beloved headmaster Dr. Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis) were stunned to come face to face with a series of monster and creatures they had only ever heard of in myth and lore. A dragon. A gargoyle. The Headless Horseman. The evil behind the real-life resurrection of these formerly fictional beings proved to have a horrifying connection to the school’s newest student, Landon Kirby (Aria Shahghasemi). This led his first and only love, Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), the school’s shining star, to sacrifice her place at the school — and in the world — to protect Landon from a terrible fate.

Season two will show us a world without Hope Mikaelson and all the chaos that goes along with it. All the while, Hope will be trying to find her way back to the school she has learned to call home and the friends she has learned to love like family. It will be filled with new monsters and more romantic and emotional surprises than ever.

‘Legacies’ season 2 casting news

Our main cast, Danielle Rose Russell, Kaylee Bryant, Aria Shahghasemi, Jenny Boyd, Matthew Davis, Quincy Fouse, Peyton Alex Smith, Chris Lee, and Nick Fink will all be back.

No news yet on Lulu Antariksa or Karen David’s return, but as both of their characters were left alive and well at the end of Legacies season 1, chances are good that we will see them at some point. **crosses fingers**

We have a handful of new characters joining Legacies for season 2, on top of our already amazing cast.

We recently learned that Alexis Denisoff joined the cast for season 2, and we might be a little excited about it. Alexis’ character, Professor Vardemus, will be the new headmaster at the Salvatore School after Alaric is ousted by the Honor Council vote. You can check out all the reasons to be excited about this particular bit of casting right here.

Also joining the cast this season is Thomas Doherty. He will be playing Sebastian, an old world vampire that needs a little guidance in navigating a new time, who may find himself bonding closely with Lizzie Saltzman.

We also know that we are getting a new family in Mystic Falls, whose matriarch will be taking over sheriff duties from Matt Donovan. While we don’t have a last name, we do know that Sheriff Mac (whose name is a lovely nod to the inimitable Marguerite MacIntyre who portrayed Sheriff Forbes on TVD for the majority of the show’s 8 season run, and has since gone on to write for both The Originals and Legacies) will be played by Bianca Kajlich, and has two children, twins in fact, named Maya and Ethan, who will be played by Bianca Santos and Leo Howard, respectively. Julie Plec hinted at SDCC in July that these twins may have some interest in Hope Mikaelson… you know, once she returns from Malivore and is a little less forgotten by everyone on Earth.

The newest bit of casting news details a new love interest for M.G.! Ebboney Wilson will be playing a recurring human character named Kym who will become very interested in learning more about his world after an adorable meet cute. A human/vampire romance? What could possibly go wrong? Lol.

‘Legacies’ season 2 details and plot points

Season 2’s first episode will bring us back at the end of summer break. Josie and Lizzie spent their summers apart, with Josie staying in Mystic Falls for some quality dad time, while Lizzie took off for a European excursion with Caroline. It looks like this isn’t going to be due to any falling out, but simply some time apart for each of them to focus on their individual persons, rather than falling into their twin roles all the time.

Also, we may see new romance for Josie in season 2. Despite having some serious chemistry with Penelope, locking lips with Rafael, and revealing her childhood crush on Hope, we will probably see yet another new love interest for her. And, it has to be said, that from a few of the stills for the season, she’s definitely gotten closer to Landon during this Hope-less summer. Could he be her new romance?

Alaric, having been ousted from his role as Headmaster at the Salvatore School, may find himself back at Mystic Falls High, but this time, as it’s principal. This was all but confirmed by Matt Davis at SDCC. I’m excited to see what this means for the two schools’ relations, since they’ve been combative at best for many years.

For even more fun details about what we will be seeing in season 2, make sure to check out our SDCC coverage.

Word from the Powers-That-Be

We know that there is a visit from Hope’s Aunt Freya written into season 2, but with Riley Voelkel’s commitments to Roswell, New Mexico, it may have to be restructured a bit to fit into her schedule.

And if only we could use superzoom and read those post-its on the wall. We would have ALL THE DETAILS.
