Ahhh. There’s nothing like the smell of a fresh reboot in the morning.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Die Hard is back from the dead, with veteran action flick producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (who’s worked on the Transformers, G.I. Joe and Red franchises) putting together the sixth installment of the John McClane saga.
Instead of having Bruce Willis heave himself through yet another round of impressive stunts, however, this movie will go back to the beginning and show how John McClane became John McClane. If this sounds familiar, it’s because they’re doing the exact same thing with Taken (but for television).
Die Hard 6 will be directed by Len Wiseman, the man who brought us Live Free or Die Hard (2007), and more recently the Total Recall reboot (2012). He also directed the much-applauded Lucifer pilot.

The good (?) news is that Bruce Willis will be back for this movie, but it seems the primary part of the story will be set in 1979, which is just shy of 10 years before the premiere of the original Die Hard. We’ll see him go through cop training, and presumably find out how he fell in love with his wife-to-be Holly (Bonnie Bedelia).
Now, bear with us for a minute while we get our tin hats on: This Die Hard sequel coincides almost too perfectly with the Men in Black reboot, doesn’t it? So what if John McClane joins the Men in Black and goes back in time?! Sony was, after all, planning an MIB/Jump Street crossover… (And yes, we know this isn’t happening, but something’s gotta shake up this reboot game.)
The last person who played a younger version of Bruce Willis was Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Looper, and he did a spectacular job. Who would you like to see play John McClane in Die Hard 6?
