A remake of The Magnificent Seven is in the works, and we now have three of the seven: Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and Denzel Washington.
The Magnificent Seven is a classic Western movie from 1960, directed by John Sturges and boasting a star-specked cast which includes Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and Yul Brynner. It tells the story of seven gunfighters, who assemble to defend a Mexican peasant village.
Naturally, a remake is inevitable. (The Magnificent Seven is, incidentally, already a remake of Akira Kurowsawa’s Seven Samurai.)
Aside from Adam Sandler’s parody version The Ridiculous Six which is coming to Netflix, Antoine Fuqua is also putting together a genuine re-imagining.
Denzel Washington has long been attached to the project, and we’ve previously reported that Chris Pratt was also in talks to join up.
Now, Variety has confirmed that both Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke are officially on board, along with Haley Bennett.
The movie will thus reunite Hawke and Washington, who both starred in Fuqua’s Training Day.
Pratt, of course, is also rumored to be the next Indiana Jones. He has also signed up for the (more awesome than it sounds) adaptation of Cowboy Ninja Viking, another role which will allow him to flex his action hero muscles.
The Magnificent Seven is finally beginning to take shape, and we can’t wait to see who else gets involved!
