Mayhem is heading the way of Supergirl and The Flash, as Greg Berlanti confirms The Music Meister as the musical episode’s crossover villain.
The Television Critics Association winter press tour continues to deliver. We learned back in August 2016 that The Flash and Supergirl would be crossing over once more, this time for a musical episode, but the identity of the villain remained shrouded in mystery — though fans certainly had their suspicions.
Those suspicions were confirmed today, as Greg Berlanti announced that The Music Meister would be making his first live-action appearance during the crossover.
“We’re finishing the script this weekend,” Berlanti told reporters at the TCAs. As for the part itself? Well, that has yet to be cast, despite a firm favorite being on everyone’s lips.
The Music Meister began life on the animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold, in the episode titled “Mayhem of the Music Meister!” He was voiced by musical veteran Neil Patrick Harris and possessed the ability to, you guessed it, control others through song. A fitting villain for a musical crossover.
Harris would, undoubtedly, be the obvious choice to reprise the role in the crossover, and with the script being finished imminently we’d expect an announcement to come soon.
The musical crossover itself is highly anticipated, not just by the network, but also by the fans themselves. With Glee alums Melissa Benoist and Grant Gustin headlining their respective shows, as well as Jeremy Jordan, and Jesse L. Martin, there’s no shortage of musical talent within the cast.
As for a director for the episode, there was no announcement today, though rumors continue to circulate that Joss Whedon might receive that honor.
