The TV series adaptation of Snowpiercer, Bong Joon-ho’s acclaimed sci-fi film starring Chris Evans, has been picked up by TNT.
It’s been exactly one year since we first learned of the plans for a Snowpiercer TV series, with The Sarah Connor Chronicles‘ Josh Friedman penning the pilot script.
Now, Deadline can report that TNT has bought the pilot episode, and has hired Friedman to helm the project should it be ordered to series.
When the project was first announced, Josh Friedman said in a statement:
“I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity. I’m a huge fan of director Bong’s films, especially Snowpiercer. It’s great the way the best sci-fi is great — thoughtful, political, funny, scary and sly. And it’s on a train. A big f—ing train. What more could you want?”
Snowpiercer takes place in a post-apocalyptic Ice Age, where a moving train holds the remainder of humanity. The train is divided into social classes, and drama occurs when the lowest class revolts.

Original director Bong Joon-ho is on board as executive producer along with Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, Dooho Choi and Last Man Standing‘s Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements.
Clements says of the adaptation, “Snowpiercer has one of the most original concepts to hit the screen in the last decade, and it’s one that offers numerous opportunities for deeper exploration in a series format. We look forward to expanding TNT’s relationship with Tomorrow Studios and their take on a world where humanity is pushed to the extreme.”
The 2013 movie was based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand and Jean-Marc Rochette, and starred Chris Evans, Octavia Spencer, Ed Harris, John Hurt and Tilda Swinton.
