Everyone’s favorite mighty morphin’ team is coming back to the big screen with another Power Rangers reboot.
It’s only been two years since the last Power Rangers reboot, but the franchise is ready to try again. Lionsgate’s 2017 Power Rangers was a box office flop, despite its impressive cast, which featured Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, Bill Hader as Alpha 5. The five rangers were portrayed by Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin and Becky G.

THR is reporting that the new reboot, which is being pursued by Paramount, is eyeing The End of the F***cking World’s Jonathan Entwistle to direct the project. The screenplay will be written by Patrick Burleigh, who’s most recently known for Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, and who consulted on 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp.
According to THR, the reboot will involve a “time-travel element that brings the kids to the 1990s.” Apparently, the rangers will have to fight their way back to their own timeline “in Back to the Future fashion.”
We’re intrigued by the inclusion of time-travel in this Power Rangers. It would be interesting if they could use it to incorporate and pay tribute to past generations of the long-running rangers, kind of like X-Men: Days of Future Past. We’d love to see some of the old rangers back in action in this new reboot of the franchise.
Still no word on when we can expect the next Power Rangers movie to premiere, but keep an eye on Hypable for the inevitable casting announcements to come! We can’t wait to see who’ll be taking on the roles of the red, blue, pink, yellow, and black rangers next.
