Appearing on James Corden’s late night show with Saoirse Ronan and Melissa Benoist, Olivia Wilde insists Marvel hasn’t contacted her about Captain Marvel.
“No!” Wilde insisted, when James Corden asked about her potential involvement with Marvel’s upcoming female-led superhero movie Captain Marvel.
Wilde is one of the actresses whose name often comes up in connection with Captain Marvel, mainly because of her popularity online. “Of course I was thrilled,” Wilde said of the online buzz, “I think that would be amazing. But I had nothing to do with it.”
In the clip, she also had a sassy comeback for Jeb Bush, whose comment
about Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl being “kind of hot” has made its way around the Internet, saying, “It may be the only thing he’s ever been right about.” Check it out:
We only have one question after seeing that clip: Doth she protest too much? We’ll let you be the judge of that.
Olivia Wilde certainly wouldn’t be the most off-the-cuff choice Marvel could make. She has proven herself capable of mastering the action hero role, with a resumé that includes the TRON series, Cowboys & Aliens, In Time, and The Lazarus Effect.
She’s also one of the few A-list Hollywood actors who is not already a part of the Marvel, DC or X-Men cinematic universes, which is quite a feat at this point!
Other actresses whose names have been linked to the sought-after Captain Marvel role include Emily Blunt (who has also denied involvement), Katee Sackhoff, Ronda Rousey, Natalie Dormer, Gina Torres, and Rebecca Ferguson (who actually might have been approached).
Although the Captain Marvel movie has been pushed to 2019 in favor of another Ant-Man movie, Marvel may very well be casting the role already.
Yesterday, ComicBookMovie posted a rumor saying that the Captain Marvel character might make her debut in Thor: Ragnarok, which releases on November 3, 2017.
