Just ahead of the season 4 premiere, Syfy’s The Magicians has been officially renewed for a fifth season.
Syfy’s show The Magicians is based on the best-selling series of novels from Lev Grossman. While the show’s fourth season premiere is set to air on Wednesday, January 23, the network has announced that the series is renewed for a fifth season.
Showrunners Sera Gamble and John McNamara said of the renewal, “We couldn’t be happier or more excited to conjure another year of magic and all it entails — love, hate, loyalty, betrayal, sex, foul language, drugs, battling gods, monsters and the most dangerous enemies of all: other human beings. We have the best writers, producers, directors, cast and crew in the charted multiverse. Here’s how strongly we believe this: anyone who tries to poach a single one of them will be cursed. And we have the voodoo dolls to do it.”
However, Syfy didn’t just announce the show’s renewal. It was also announced that Henry Alonso Myers was promoted to co-showrunner alongside of Gamble and McNamara.
Gamble and McNamara are more than supportive of Myers new role, issuing the joint statement, “Henry has been with the show since minute one of Season 1. His talent, professionalism and love of all things magical has been instrumental to our success. We couldn’t be happier to see him become co-showrunner. Also, he bakes the greatest bread this side of the Hudson River.”
The Magicians follows a group of twentysomethings from Brakebills University who discover they have magical abilities. Season 4 will pick up with our heroes forgetting who they are thanks to being mind-wiped by “The Monster,” who is seeking them out for unknown reasons.
If you haven’t watched The Magicians, now is a great time to catch up. In addition to season 4 premiering on January 23, the show’s first 3 seasons are currently available on Netflix. The Magicians is a show that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and we couldn’t be more excited that Syfy is investing in this amazing show.
