Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux will soon be teaming up to bring the infamous Watergate scandal to life.
According to TV Line, actors Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux have both signed on to star in the upcoming HBO limited series, The White House Plumbers.
Harrelson and Theroux’s involvement in the project marks both actors’ return to the premium cable network, with Harrelson having previously starred in HBO’s True Detective and Theroux in HBO’s The Leftovers.
The White House Plumbers hails from Veep writers Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck, who teamed up to create the show. Both Gregory and Hyuck will also serve as executive producers on the HBO project.
The five episode limited series will focus on the Watergate scandal, which ultimately lead to former President Richard Nixon’s resignation from office.
In a statement released shortly after the news, HBO programming president Casey Cloys said: “We’re excited to bring together such a talented team to take on this fascinating look at the internal machinations that brought down the Nixon White House. We’re especially happy to welcome both Woody and Justin back to HBO and are looking forward to getting started.”
Both Harrelson and Theroux will play former Nixon employees who ultimately planned the Watergate break-in. Specifically, Harrelson will play former CIA officer E. Howard Hunt. Meanwhile, Theroux will play former FBI agent G. Gordon Liddy. Both men eventually went on to serve prison time for the role they played in the scandal.
As for the limited series, The White House Plumbers is said to “tell the tale of how Nixon’s own staffers accidentally brought down his administration.”
There’s currently no word on when we can expect The Whitehouse Plumbers to premiere via HBO.
