Update (8/24/2020): According to Deadline, Canadian actress and singer Jordan Alexander is the latest star to join the cast of the forthcoming Gossip Girl reboot coming down the pipeline at HBO Max.
Alexander joins an ensemble cast, which includes the likes of Emily Alyn Lind, Tavi Gevinson, Whitney Peak, Eli Brown, Jonathan Fernandez, Jason Gotay, Thomas Doherty, Adam Chanler-Berat, Savannah Smith, and Zion Moreno.
Also joining the cast is Kristen Bell, who will once again be lending her voice to the often heard, but not seen Gossip Girl.
Specific details with regards to who exactly Alexander will be playing are being kept firmly under wraps for now. One thing we do know is that the Canadian star has been cast as one of the leads in the highly anticipated reboot. We also know she’ll be one of the students that attends the elite private school in which the reboot takes place.
As with many projects that were in production earlier this year, HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot has had to slam on the breaks due to the current coronavirus pandemic.
Though the initial production start date has been understandably pushed back, the studio is planning to begin filming on the reboot starting this coming fall.
Original Story (4/1/2020):
According to Deadline, actress Savannah Smith has scored a leading role in HBO Max’s reboot of the hit CW teen soap drama, Gossip Girl.
The highly anticipated forthcoming series marks Smith’s first major acting role. Currently, the newcomer is still a student studying at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Word of Smith’s casting doesn’t come with too much to go off of with regards to who her character on the show will be. All we know so far is that whoever she’ll be playing is set to take on a leading role in the reboot. Additionally, it’s rumored that her character will be one of the Upper East Side’s elite cool girls.
Smith is the latest young actor to board the HBO Max project. Just last month, we learned that Code Black vert Emily Alyn Lind had also scored a leading role in the series.
Other young stars who’ve likewise scored principle cast roles include Tavi Gevinson, Whitney Peak, Eli Brown, Johnathan Fernandez, Jason Gotay, Thomas Doherty, Adam Chanler-Berat, and Zion Moreno.
In addition, actress Kristen Bell will be return to reprise her role as the the voice of Gossip Girl herself, just as she did in the original series.
Behind the scenes, the reboot hails from Joshua Safran, Josh Schwartz, and Stephanie Savage.
Set eight years after the original series took place, the reboot will follow a whole new crop of young private school teens living in the Big Apple. Like the original, they’ll find themselves under the watchful eye of Gossip Girl— only this time, it’s not just the website they’ll have to worry about. The reboot will also shine a spotlight on how social media fits into the fold of things when it comes to spreading rumors and secrets.
Currently, HBO Max has ordered 10 episodes of the reboot, though there’s currently no word on when we can expect it to hit the forthcoming streaming platform.
