Friends fans will have to wait a little longer to see their favorite TV show characters reunited as the reunion special has been delayed.
The Friends reunion special is the latest in a long line of television shows and specials to halt production amid concerns over the spread of the coronavirus.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the unscripted Friends special was set to be filmed next Monday and Tuesday on the show’s former home, Stage 24 of the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank.
However, given the current state of the global coronavirus pandemic, production has been delayed until at least May. The reunion special has not set a new formal filming date as it is unclear when any programming will be able to resume production.
The coronavirus pandemic has caused all of Hollywood to grind to a halt, with all shows — scripted and unscripted — along with nearly all movie productions ceasing in order to flatten the curve and tackle the spread of the coronavirus. This is due to the CDC recommendation to have no more than 10 people congregate (previously, that number was 50) in any one place.
The Friends reunion special was officially confirmed in February with the cast coming together for a brand new unscripted special set to debut exclusively via forthcoming streaming service, HBO Max.
According to the official press release, Ben Winston will direct the special and will executive produce along with Friends executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane.
The Friends reunion special hails from Warner Brothers Unscripted & Alternative Television and Fulwell 73 Productions. Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, Perry, and Schwimmer will also executive produce the special. Emma Conway and James Longman are co-executive producers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast, who all negotiated together, will earn more than double their former per-episode fee for the reunion and be paid between $2.5 million and $3 million for the special.
