No news yet on Dean or Jess’ return, but scroll down to see what Amy Sherman-Palladino had to say about all three boys involvement!

Original story (Feb. 3): Gilmore Girls began filming yesterday in Los Angeles. Back at home tucked away in the Warner Brothers lot, the cast and crew gathered after eight years apart (well, eight months if you count the ATX reunion!) and began their journey back to Stars Hollow. Over the last few days stars were confirmed, Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop got in touch with their emotions, and some gossip surrounding Melissa McCarthy’s return brewed.

So what do we know? Let’s break down a few key factors about the revival and what the creator of the show hopes fans take away from the project.

This is a passion project

We’ve heard from a few key players in the project, but even before the news was official it was clear how much Stars Hollow meant to the cast of Gilmore Girls. Once the entire crew took the stage at the ATX Festival love filled the room.

Speaking to TV Line, Amy Sherman-Palladino mentioned that she and husband Dan Palladino knew the time was right, but was never sure when plans would be set in motion. She said, “It’s very surreal. It’s been very fun to write for these characters again. We’ve missed doing it… It’s been six months of, ‘We’ll just keep writing because, who knows?'”

Where will we find the Gilmore family?

Grab your tissues and prepare for a swift kick to the feelings. When the series returns the loss of Ed Herrmann will hang over the series. Not just for his widow, Emily Gilmore (Bishop), but for the entire community. Amy Sherman-Palladino mentioned that at the start of the series all three Gilmore women were at a turning point in their lives.

Expect Richard Gilmore’s departure to be the catalyst to stir things up between Emily, Lorelai, and Rory when the series returns. Palladino explained, “It’s later in their lives and we’re meeting up with them and finding out what they’ve been doing but, more than that, that all three of their lives are going to change. And for Emily, it had to be that Richard was gone. And what did that mean? What does it mean for all three of the girls? [A tragedy like that] brings up thoughts of, ‘Where am I? Where am I going? What am I doing?’ Because it’s mortality. Something they loved is gone, which means things you love will not be around forever.”

Who is confirmed to return?

Expect to see some old favorites, and new additions when the series returns! So far Kirk (Sean Gunn), Lane (Keiko Agena), Michel (Yanic Truesdale), Lorelai (Lauren Graham), Luke (Scott Patterson), Rory (Alexis Bledel), Gyspy (Rose Abdoo), Paris (Liza Weil), and, of course, Emily (Kelly Bishop) have all been confirmed to make an appearance.

Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall (all you have to do is call)

The seasons will unfold from the coldest to the warmest months in Stars Hollow. “It worked to open on snow and have a colder, starker environment. And then end on a lusher, warmer, golden-y town, which lends to where the story will end,” Amy Sherman-Palladino explained. Stars Hollow is ripe with seasonal celebrations, from winter carnivals to hay bale mazes (what a mistake that was), it only felt right to revisit each season respectively.

Four 90 minute episodes may seem daunting at the start, but the writers felt more pressure to cut material rather than fill space. Amy Sherman-Palladino said, “At first we were like, ‘How are we going to fill 90 minutes?!’ And then we were like, ‘How are we going to get it down to 90 minutes?!’ It became like this ridiculous, ‘Oh, s–t, now we’re at three hours!'” Honestly, we’d watch it!

Which sets will we see?

Yes, you will return to the mansion in Hartford once more! “The Gilmore house [where Richard and Emily lived] isn’t done yet. It’s the one set I’m really prepping myself for,” mentioned Palladino when talking about visiting the sets. “Lorelai’s house is done. And The Dragonfly is done. Stars Hollow was Grease up until an hour ago. We get it back today and we start making it Stars Hollow again,” she explained. As for Luke’s diner, well that was already under construction a few weeks ago!

Those fabulous Gilmore guys: Is Rory with anyone?

Team Logan, Team Dean, or Team Jess? Battle lines are drawn over who Rory should end up with. While no one is officially confirmed from the trio to attend the revival just yet, they are not far from Sherman-Palladino’s mind. “Our plan is to get as many of the lovely men back as possible… We’re still dealing with who’s going to be in it. We definitely want to see them. And we have storylines planned. I just need someone to tell me they’re going to show up.” Citing budget concerns, the Gilmore Girls reunion still has to play under some of Hollywood’s less appealing rules. If Kirk can work 300+ jobs in the span of eight years then the ghosts of boyfriends past can reunite!

Will it be released ‘Sherlock’ style?

Though nothing is confirmed with Netflix at the moment, Amy Sherman-Palladino hopes that the episodes will see a staggered release. Just like Kelly Bishop, Palladino is concerned about spoilers leaking before everyone has a chance to enjoy the show. She commented, “My preference would be they would not be released at once, because I feel like there’s going to be anticipation, and I think the diehard fans would enjoy it more with a little separation. Because the last thing you want is for someone to jump to the last episode and [ruin] it for everybody — which I think would happen, quite frankly, in this day and age of binging. So my preference would be to release them at least a day apart. Let people get a little sunlight and go for a walk around the corner.”
