USA Networks has opted to scrap its upcoming Evel Knievel limited series originally slated to star Milo Ventimiglia.
According to Deadline, USA Networks chose to drop the Evel limited series following production shutdowns due to the current coronavirus pandemic.
Written by Etan Frankel, the limited series would have followed the famed stunt performer as he geared up to make his now famed historic Snake River Canyon jump. In addition, Evel also aims to explore how Knievel grappled both with stardom, and with his private family life.
In a statement confirming the decision, the network said: “USA is incredibly disappointed to have had to make this decision, as we were so excited about this project and working with Milo, Etan, and everyone involved.”
Specifically, it seems as though it might also come down to a bit of scheduling logistics.
Milo Ventimiglia, who currently stars on NBC’s juggernaut hit This Is Us, was originally set to film for Evel while the Emmy Award winning family drama was on hiatus. Unfortunately, shutdowns due to the coronavirus hit just as filming for Evel was set to start up.
Though Evel may no longer have a future at USA Networks, it seems as though we still might eventually see the limited series come to fruition.
Both Ventimiglia (who is still attached to star) and UCP (the studio producing) are in the process of shopping the limited series around in an effort to find a new home for it.
Here’s hoping another network picks up the limited series soon!
In the mean time, Milo Ventimiglia fans can look forward to seeing the actor back in action as Jack Pearson on This Is Us when the hit series returns for its fifth season on NBC.
