Elizabeth Banks dips back into television to reprise her role as Sal, one of Mitch and Cameron’s female friends, as a guest appearance later on this season. Will she continue to drink everyone under the table?
Elizabeth Banks is to return as Sal on Modern Family. Banks played a hilarious cameo role in the episode “Great Expectations,” which aired in November 2009, playing one of Mitchell and Cameron’s female friends. Sal’s a party animal and could drink absolutely any of them under the table, but to Cameron and Mitchell’s dismay, they became incredibly annoyed that Sal ignored their new born baby, Lily. Sal never really accepted their fatherhood to Lily, and when Cameron and Mitchell called her on it, Sal explains that kids really aren’t her style. But, as always with Modern Family, everything always turns out okay from the all the chaos. Cameron and Mitchell understood that Sal was merely jealous, and having a new girl in their lives had upset Sal, but seeing Sal watching a movie with Lily in Cameron’s dad’s house made everything perfect.
But will Sal return with the same party attitude? Well, it turns out that Sal may have mellowed out a little. Sal is being written back in to announce her engagement. Who is her new found love? And who out of Cameron and Mitchell will be the bridesmen? This promises once again more bedlam and pandemonium in the Modern Family world. It’s safe to say it’ll be as hilarious as ever.
There hasn’t been any confession as to which episode this will be within the fourth season, as Modern Family enters its mid-season break from December 12 after airing episode 10, “Diamond in the Rough.” Check out the gallery below as a little teaser of what’s on offer on Wednesday.

And here’s the episode synopsis too:
Manny and Luke’s little league team unexpectedly makes it into a playoff game, so Claire and Cameron scramble to find a location and decide to do a makeover on a rundown field. Inspired, Claire and Cam want to try their hand at flipping a house while they’re at it, and Phil and Mitchell fight over who will be the bad guy to tell them no. Meanwhile, Gloria tries a bonding technique by using a microphone to sing to the baby in utero, which definitely incites a reaction from Jay.
