The Percy Jackson series at Disney+ has officially found its co-writer in Black Sails vet Jonathan E. Steinberg.
Production on the highly anticipated Percy Jackson series adaptation seems to be picking up momentum. In fact, the series has made some major strides this week on the development front behind the scenes.
On Wednesday (April 28), author Rick Riordan’s wife, Becky Riordan, took to Twitter to confirm that Jonathan E. Steinberg has officially come aboard to serve as co-writer and executive producer on the series.
News of Steinberg’s involvement was originally reported by DiscussingFilm.net, who revealed on Tuesday (April 27), that Steinberg has already co-written the pilot episode of the series along with Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan.
Steinberg seems especially well equipped to work on the PJO series behind the scenes having previously served as co-creator on Starz’s Black Sails.
The swashbuckling adventure drama serves as something of a prequel to the events of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, Treasure Island, meaning that Steinberg is also familiar with adapting beloved tales for the small screen.
Joining Steinberg in working on Percy Jackson is his producing partner Dan Shortz. The pair have an overall deal with Fox 21, who is the studio behind the forthcoming Disney+ adaptation.
“Was holding off on talking about this because I don’t want you all to bother these people. Our talented and fabulous collaborators are busy working on our show! Be assured though as much as #BlackSails proves they understand adventure, as parents they understand kid friendly too!” Tweeted Riordan of Jonathan E. Steinberg’s involvement with Percy Jackson.
Something fun I think you should know is that once Bert, Jon, and Dan knew they would be working with us they started to do some research on the Percy Jackson fan base. Minds were blown. You all prove over and over to everyone in Hollywood that you all are the best fans ever!
