Netflix has announced the pickup of Daredevil season 2, along with a change in the Marvel series’ showrunner.
Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will take over the helm of the series, which represents the first of several collaborations between Marvel Studios and Netflix. Petrie has geek credits from his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, while Ramirez comes from the highly-acclaimed Sons of Anarchy.

Both writers worked closely with original showrunner Steven DeKnight. Show creator Drew Goddard will remain an executive producer, along with Marvel’s omnipresent Jeph Loeb.
Daredevil season 2 will premiere in 2016. The 13-episode first season hit Netflix on April 10, and presumably the next season will debut in the Spring as well.
Daredevil tells the story of Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer who secretly uses his extraordinary senses to protect New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen from crime. Telling the story of a street-level superhero, Daredevil adds a considerably darker element to the candy-colored Marvel Cinematic Universe, presenting a world that is grim, gray, and frequently doused in red.
The announcement of Daredevil season 2 is not surprising, as the recent first season received enthusiastic acclaim from fans and critics alike. The renewal does, however, confirm that the characters of Marvel’s Defenders will not be limited to single seasons in service of their eventual collaborative adventure.
In addition to Matt Murdock’s Daredevil, the Defenders will include Jessica Jones (Kirstin Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist. A.K.A. Jessica Jones is scheduled for release later this year.
