The first Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald trailer left fans shrieking right out of the gate.
The trailer opens with gorgeous shots of Hogwarts in the 1920s, and it instantly made fans excited for the new film. There was just one problem: In these same shots we see a couple of wizards arriving on Hogwarts grounds… by apparition. As all real fans know, apparition onto Hogwarts grounds is not possible.
“You can’t Apparate inside the Hogwarts grounds, how often do I have to tell you?” Hermione once said in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Fans have been guessing how the wizards could’ve gotten away with the magical mode of transportation so close to the school. One popular theory is that the apparition rule wasn’t in place prior to Dumbledore taking over as headmaster.
This week, Mashable asked Fantastic Beasts 2 co-star and diehard Harry Potter fan Jessica Williams about the controversy.
“David Yates and Jo [wrote the script]. Who knows more about the Potter universe person than the person who created it? Nobody. Not a single person,” she said. “So, like, LOL what do you mean?! Don’t you think that will addressed in film? Don’t you think there was a reason for it? Do you think you know more than she does on this subject?”
Williams’ confidence seems to suggest that this matter will be addressed in the film. She’s in the film, so she’d know!
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters this November. What’s your best WTF-apparation-at-Hogwarts theory?
Editor’s note: Johnny Depp, who co-stars in this film, allegedly beat his ex-wife Amber Heard. These accusations were made by Heard and Depp’s former associates. J.K. Rowling responded to the controversy. Why are we telling you this?
