The upcoming Snake Eyes film has cast Ready or Not breakout star Samara Weaving in the role of Scarlett.
The G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes is putting together quite a cast of Hollywood up-and-comers.
The upcoming film has already cast Crazy Rich Asians breakout star Henry Golding in the lead role of the titular Snake Eyes — the ninja soldier, maimed by fire, who is an ace member of the G.I. Joe team. It was announced earlier that he will be joined by Andrew Koji from the popular Cinemax show Warrior, who will be playing Snake Eye’s blood brother and sworn enemy, Storm Shadow.
Now the two men of Snake Eyes will be joined by Samara Weaving, who made a big impression — and kicked a lot of ass — in the recent horror sleeper hit, Ready or Not.
The red-haired, crossbow carrying soldier originated in the 1980s Hasbro toyline reboot of the franchise, and likewise continued on in the Marvel comic books and animated TV series. The role of Scarlett in the 2009 movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was first played by Rachel Nichols.
While we don’t know too much story details, we do know that Snake Eyes will follow its titular character on his journey to seek revenge for his father’s death. He does so by joining a ninja clan and training with them. In the process of becoming a part of that clan, he finds acceptance.
Takehiro Hira was also added to the cast today with Samara Weaving, though we don’t know for what role.
Iko Uwais has likewise been cast as Hard Master, Snake Eyes’ sword master, also with Ursula Corbero, who will play the evil Cobra agent the Baroness.
Lorenzo di Bonaventure and Brian Goldner are producing, with Robert Schwentke, who helmed two installments of the Divergent franchise, directing off a screenplay by Evan Spiliotopoulos.
