Kate Winslet is on the case in the first teaser trailer for HBO’s Mare of Easttown— watch it below!
In HBO’s forthcoming limited series, Academy Award winner Kate Winslet stars as Mare Sheehan— a small-town Pennsylvania detective who gets assigned to investigate a local murder.
But murder isn’t the only thing that Mare has to deal with. In addition to trying to catch the killer, the detective also has to deal with the way life seems to be crumbling around her in the wake of the investigation.
HBO dropped the first teaser trailer for Mare of Easttown on Wednesday (February 17), offering up a first glimpse of the titular detective, who’s battling her own demons amidst the small-town tragedy she’s assigned to bring justice to.
“I can feel it happening again,” says Mare toward the middle of the teaser. “This expectation from people to be something I don’t think I’m good enough to be.”

The forthcoming seven-part limited series finds Kate Winslet reuniting with Guy Pearce, who co-stars as Richard Ryan— a creative writing professor who’s just in town on a visit.
Winslet and Pearce previously worked together on HBO’s Mildred Pierce back in 2011. Their work on the aforementioned mini series scored both actors a win at the 2011 Emmy Awards.
Written and created by Brad Ingelsby (The Way Back) and directed by Craig Zobel (HBO’s The Leftovers), Mare of Easttown premiers via HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, April 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
