Set photos from Game of Thrones season 7 reveal a series-changing moment between major characters. Spoilers are coming!
The photos were taken on the Spanish islet of Gaztelugatxe, where Game of Thrones season 7 has been filming. Blurry and long-distance though they are, the shots are blatantly clear in their monumental implications.
Naturally, those implications are extremely spoilerific. Turn back now if you don’t want to know what’s going down in Game of Thrones season 7!
If you do want to know, check out the photos as posted on Watchers On The Wall:
The Game of Thrones season 7 set photos clearly show a meeting between Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington). So, basically, we’re feeling like this:
Just in a good way.
Given the virtually nonexistent overlap in their stories, fans will just have to imagine what has brought Jon and Dany together. Dany sailed triumphantly toward Westeros in the closing moments of Game of Thrones season 6, but it’s unclear where she will first make land.
And despite the classic Stark cloak on Jon’s shoulders, he has clearly left Winterfell — where he has just been proclaimed King of the North. So obviously, some big changes will be working in Game of Thrones season 7.
Aside from setting shippers’ hearts aflame, Dany and Jon’s meeting also represents a confluence of geographically separate but thematically similar forces. Both are young people disenfranchised from their families, and both are thrust into positions of power with enemies on every side. Both have found and lost love; both work against existing power structures in their societies, and have paid a price for that bravery.
And of course, given the revelation that Jon’s father is most likely Dany’s eldest brother Rhaegar Targaryen, the two probably share a bond of blood as well.
Oooh, the drama. We need it now.
Game of Thrones season 7 will have only seven episodes in which to tell its tale, but at least we’ll get to enjoy this sure-to-be-epic tête–à–tête.
And hey, maybe this time, no one will kill each other.
Game of Thrones season 7 will air in Summer 2017.
