Marvel (understandably) wants Michael Douglas back for Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Douglas seems keen to reprise his role.
“Hopefully, I won’t have to carry quite as much expositional dialogue as the first one,” Douglas joked (waspishly?), when Collider asked him about his involvement with Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man sequel.
“I just got a call recently – they want to negotiate for a sequel and I thought, ‘That’s great!'” Douglas enthused.
Ant-Man, directed by Peyton Reed and starring Paul Rudd as the titular hero, was a smash hit for Marvel — so much so that the studio bumped their female-led Captain Marvel movie in order to find room in Phase 3 for the follow-up.

The second installment adds Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp to the title, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing Scott and Hope Van Dyne team up.
And, if negotiations with Marvel work out, it’ll be exciting to see how Hope’s dad factors into the story, too; perhaps the story of Hank and his ill-fated wife (the original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne) is not quite as over as the first movie would have us believe.
“I had a wonderful time doing it,” Douglas said of the first Ant-Man. “Just a great, great time. The cast was fantastic. Paul [Rudd], Evangeline [Lilly], Michael Peña – I’m sure he’ll be back. If they can scrape Corey Stoll off the wall, I’m sure they’ll want him too – he’s such a good villain. And Peyton [Reed] too. It was a lovely experience, so you know, I welcome it. I chuckle about being involved with a movie that already has a release date in 2018. Ya know, it’s hard to conceive of that, but it’s all good, all the way around, it’s all good.”
Peyton Reed is set to return to direct Ant-Man and the Wasp. The movie is scheduled for July 6, 2018.
