Outlander had its red carpet premiere for the second half of season 1 last night, and Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, had a surprising revelation.
Red carpets are an interesting thing. They can kind of be like organized chaos on wheels. They start off slowly, inevitably things get backed up, and then there’s a mad dash at the end as the lead actors are down to one question each, or one group question where it might be something they have answered three million times before. Such as, “How do you like filming in Scotland?”
So, last night I had my one question with Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser. If I had more time, I would have asked about him working with several actors in the second half of the season, but with the time crunch I had to make it more generic. So, I asked, “There are so many new characters introduced in the second half of the season as the world continues to expand. Who was your favorite to work with?”
What I hoped I would get was something on Laura Donnelly or Steven Cree, who play Jenny Fraser Murray and Ian Murray respectively. Eventually I did get him to comment on those actors, but first, what I got was nothing like what I anticipated. Check out the video below. Who do you think this mystery person is who would be a spoiler to reveal?
Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire, was also down to one question as well, but you’d never know it. She has an absolutely charming and natural grace. When asked about which character Claire has to rely upon her inner strength with more (Black Jack or Jamie), she unsurprisingly said “Black Jack.” However, she really gets into the Jamie and Claire dynamic stating that, “I think with Jamie, he just amplifies that [inner strength] for her. They fight and disagree, but that’s what a lot of healthy relationships do. I think Jamie makes her feel more than she ever imagined she could be.”
