It’s amazing what surprises you might find lurking in old series you’ve never seen before. In this case, it’s discovering that Rashida Jones played a VERY convincing bully before she was the lovable Ann Perkins.
We continue to collectively mourn the end of Parks and Recreation and the loss of not only Leslie Knope but Ann Perkins as well, but it’s always fun when you get a glimpse of an actress who you’ve seen as one character for a long time do a very different kind of work.
As the ReWatchable podcast has just begun the adventure of watching Freaks and Geeks, at least one newbie (this writer in particular) was more than a little surprised to see Rashida Jones make an appearance that is so very far from the types of roles we’ve seen her take before.
I mean, sure, it’s easy to fall for a character like Ann Perkins who is pretty much the embodiment of sweetness and light, but when you find yourself still drawn in when Rashida Jones is playing a character who’s just spray-painted ‘pygmy geek’ on a kids’ locker, you know you can call yourself a diehard fan.
Whether you appreciated her work on The Office as Karen Filippelli or didn’t discover her amazing talents until she was already Leslie Knope’s nurse best friend, Ann Perkins, on Parks and Recreation it definitely comes as quite a shock to discover that her career has a role as drastically different as Karen Scarfolli buried in it’s depths.
Rashida Jones has many years and hopefully numerous roles left in her career for us to fall in love with, but those could never detract from the first time you found yourself marveling at her talent.
Here are some of Rashida’s most memorable roles to date. Where did you first discover the glory of Rashida Jones?
Karen Scarfolli on ‘Freaks and Geeks’
Zooey Rice in ‘I Love You, Man’
Marylin Delpy in ‘The Social Network’
Karen Filippelli on ‘The Office’
Celeste in ‘Celeste and Jessie Forever’
