The first red-band clip for Don Jon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut has been released. The film stars Levitt, along with Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, and Tony Danza.
Making its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this past year, the Joseph Gordon-Levitt-directed film Don Jon was purchased by Relativity Media for $4 million to distribute in the United States.
Today, Don Jon’s first red-band clip has been released. Watch as Tony Danza’s character approves of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s new squeeze:
We saw the first trailer for Don Jon back in May, and the film continues to look just as hilarious and quirky in this new clip. Levitt has said that he’s incredibly proud of this film, and it’s definitely interesting to see him and Johansson with some incredibly hilarious accents.
Knowing JGL though, we imagine the film will not only be comical, but also give audiences an interesting message to go home with.
In addition to the distribution of Don Jon, Relativity has pledged $25 million for promotional purposes when Don Jon opens in the summer.
This amount of money was a huge commitment in terms of films that premiered at Sundance, and it’s rumored that Relativity may have decided to commit to this amount of money so that they could create a relationship with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and his rising stardom.
After the announcement of the film being purchased, Gordon-Levitt released a statement saying, “I always intended this to be a movie for a mass popular audience. Everyone told me it was a long shot.”
Levitt filled with excitement revealed, “Now Relativity is making it happen. Tucker and Robbie told me they believe that, more than anything, audiences want something unique. I couldn’t agree with them more. I admire them for putting their money where their mouth is. And I couldn’t possibly be more grateful.”
Don Jon’s Addiction stars Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, and Tony Danza. It follows the journey of a contemporary, porn-addicted Don Juan-type as he attempts to become less selfish.
JGL spoke to Hypable about the film in September when he described the project as “the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
Don Jon had its release date pushed up to September 27, a few weeks earlier than it was originally announced.
