It’s been a decade since Zombieland hit theaters, but Zombieland 2 is officially in production and announcing new cast members.
Word of a sequel to Zombieland has been swirling around fans of the film since the original released in 2009. And while it took a while to get a second film off the ground (with one unsuccessful Amazon pilot in the mix), the sequel is finally in production.
The Hollywood Reporter states that production on the sequel begins this week. Additionally, the movie announced an exciting new cast member: Rosario Dawson. Dawson will be joining the original cast along with another new face to the Zombieland fun, Zoey Deutch.
According to THR, the sequel will reunite us with Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Wichita (Emma Stone), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin). Our favorite group of zombie slayers and a one time accidental Bill Murray slayer will be continuing the fight to survive, facing off against the undead and the newly evolved undead along with other human survivors that mean to do them harm.
There is no word on who Rosario Dawson will be playing yet, but it stands to reason that she will likely be one of those humans that our zombie hunters have to face off against. But if we’ve learned anything from seeing her as Claire Temple in Netflix and Marvel’s shows like Daredevil, Luke Cage, and more, she’s is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
It’s been a decade since the first film, so obviously the world we first were introduced to in Zombieland will have changed quite a bit in Zombieland 2. Still, the heart of the story comes from the relationship of our survivors. To that end, the film released this awesome new poster on the official Sony Twitter.

We can’t wait to reconnect with our favorite, unlikely, post-apocalyptic family to see what changed and what has stayed the same. Luckily, we don’t have to wait until the end of the world to do that. Zombieland 2 will release in theaters on October 11.
