The upcoming Willow series at Disney+ may have just found its leading ladies.
Actresses Ellie Bamber, Cailee Spaeny, and Erin Kellyman are currently in negotiations to join the cast of Willow at Disney+.
The series, which is based off of the 1988 film of the same name, has been in the works at the streamer for well over a year and recently made some huge strides when it was announced that Crazy Rich Asians helmer, Jon M. Chu had signed on to serve as director on the project.
Others involved behind the scenes include showrunnner Jonathan Kasdan (Solo) and Wendy Mericle (Arrow). In addition, Ron Howard (who directed the original movie which was based on a story by George Lucas) will serve as an executive producer on the series along with original film writer, Bob Dolman.
Plot details for the series are being kept fairly secret for now, but Deadline (who was first to report today’s casting news) shared a bit of insight with regards to what we can expect from the characters Bamber, Spaeny, and Kellyman will take on.
Specifically, Bamber is set to play Dove, a kitchen maid who sets off on a journey after discovering she’s “the chosen one.” Meanwhile, Spaeny is set to play a princess named Kit whose brother has been abducted. Finally, Kellyman will take on the role of Jade, a servant who also happens to be Kit’s best friend.
The series is set to film in Wales out in the UK, though currently, there’s no word on when we can expect the Willow series to debut via Disney+.
