The red band trailer for We’re the Millers has been released. Jason Sudekis and Jennifer Anniston star in this anything but usual family road trip movie.
Q: When the plot of a movie doesn’t sound like anything worth seeing, what do you do?
A: Fill the movie with actors people will people will pay to see.
We’re the Millers stars Jason Sudekis as a drug dealer with a plan. If he were to cross the border from Mexico to the United States by himself, it’d clearly be giving away that he was smuggling in marijuana. But if he were to cross the border with a wife and two kids, it’s definitely a family vacation. Of course those are the only two options. In his plan, he enlists Jennifer Anniston, a hot stripper he may or may not have history with, to play his wife on the fake vacation. Emma Roberts, a homeless girl, and Will Poulter, a dorky English kid, come along for the trip as their fake children. Don’t let the fact that Anniston plays a stripper fool you. Even in the trailer, it’s clear that before long she’ll have cleaned up and be looking much like she has in most of her roles.
As you’d expect with a movie with a plot like this, nothing is going to go to plan. Along the way, something goes awry and they end up camping with the Fitzgeralds (played by Nick Offerman and Kathryn Hahn). If these two are in the movie for more than just a cameo, it could add some life to the second or third act that will probably be necessary.
With a movie like this, it all comes down to the script. If they’ve shown all the best jokes in the trailer, there won’t be anything worth seeing here. If it’s funny throughout, watching these actors could still make for an enjoyable movie.
