Warner Bros. announced yesterday that it would release four classic scripts as enhanced books with director’s notes and other historical materials.
The four scripts being released are Casablanca, Ben-Hur, An American in Paris and North by Northwest. Each e-book title includes the film’s actual shooting script and rare historical documents from the Warner Bros. archives.
We had been looking at a variety of ideas to leverage some of the assets we had at the studio,” said Mr. Gewecke. “We quickly realized there was all of this new e-book technology that we could use to create an interesting and compelling literary property.
With the Archive Collection, we started by selling to collectors and later reached a larger audience,” he said. “[Inside the Script] is another example of something where we can make original materials available to fans and give them unprecedented access.
While Gewecke admits there isn’t currently a large demand for printed scripts, he hopes that Inside the Script will follow in the footsteps of Warner Bros.’ other successful digital distributions.
