With The Walking Dead season 4 now behind us, the cast and crew are discussing what to expect in season 5 later this year.

Last night’s season 4 finale (check out our recap) saw most of the survivors reunited – but unfortunately they’re trapped in a train car at Terminus, the supposed sanctuary.

In last night’s episode Rick seemed confident that they’ll be able to push back against Gareth and the others. “They’re going to feel pretty stupid when they find out,” he said at the end of episode 16. “Find out what?” Abraham asked. “They’re screwing with the wrong people.”

How will they fight when they’re without weapons and outnumbered? There’s no clear answer yet, but in a new featurette posted on AMC’s website we hear predictions from the cast and crew.

“You can always evolve,” says Michonne actress Danai Gurira. “There’s constant evolution of self that happens in this world, and that’s what’s always fascinating because we don’t know who anybody is going to be by the beginning of season 5.”

That evolution may be what leads the characters to put on their biggest fight yet. Rick has obviously had one of the biggest evolutions after we saw him bite into Joe’s neck.

Said Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd of the people at Terminus, “They’ve encountered a group unlike any group that they’ve seen before because it’s pretty up front with them. Unlike with The Governor who had the facade of being a benevolent despot.”

Producer Greg Nictoero has high hopes for Rick. “I would pretty much guarantee that we’re going to see a completely different Rick Grimes in season 5,” he says. “One who just is willing to do anything and would never question any motive or any decision. He just goes into it head first.”

Said Rick actor Andrew Lincoln, “It’s going to be messy, it’s going to be brutal. It’s going to be thrilling how these guys get out of this.”

In a separate interview with Deadline, showrunner Scott M. Gimple says that the first half of The Walking Dead season 5 will include quite a bit of action – something that was lagging in season 4. “I would say that these next eight episodes are going to be a little more action-heavy, with a lot of big twists,” he said. “Really 85% of [the survivors] are together again, so it’s a pretty good guess that they’re going to remain together and that’s going to give us a whole new emotional dynamic as well.”

“So I guess the biggest thing is prepare for a very different Walking Dead. Yet again.”

What are your early ‘Walking Dead’ season 5 predictions?

Thanks to Deadline for the comments from Gimple.
