In an interview with Access Hollywood, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev talk Vampire Diaries – how happy they are about the season 3 renewal, and what we can expect to see in season 3!
In the interview, which you can watch here, Somerhalder says that they are incredibly lucky to get a season 3, and jokes that they’ll be “killing Damon in episode 3, so I’ll get a nice vacation.” More specifically, he reveals:
We’re gonna get a lot of the psychological, scare-parts back, and a lot of the Originals are coming. I think we got over the hump of sort of explaining all the mythology and all the backstory, and now I think we’re gonna go forward quickly.
Nina Dobrev thinks that her job is the most difficult, yet the most amazing job. “As vampires, we don’t really sleep.” She talks about how crazy the show is, how every time she thinks she can’t be more surprised, the writers throw in something new. On where she’d like her character to go next year, Dobrev says:
I’d love to see Elena kind of grow a backbone. She’s a really strong, empowered woman, but she’s been led by men these past two seasons – or led by love, really, and I think she needs to… I’d like to see her kind of step out on her own and see if she can hold her own ground. Without the crazy vampires threatening to kill her all the time.
The interviewer also asks Somerhalder about his dating life, and he very diplomatically answers: “You don’t need a life when you work on a television show, because that is your life.”
That’s some pretty concrete info we’re getting from the actors and writers about season 3 – I say bring on girl power Elena and the Originals!
