Variety is reporting that Universal Pictures have purchased the Jonny Kurzman spec script Leonardo, which is reportedly an action-adventure based on the early part of the life of this famed historical figure. More information after the jump.
According to the report by Variety, the story is centered around Da Vinci’s quest to stop Renaissance Europe from returning to The Dark Ages.
As is widely known, in addition to creating some of the most widely cherished paintings in history (see: The Mona Lisa), Da Vinci was an inventor as well. In fact, Da Vinci created such things as the first prototype for the Helicopter and the Tank. Taking these facts into account, it would be easy for Kurzman and company to propose Da Vinci being some sort of master weapon-developer to support their idea of him being some kind of action-hero.
Universal have set up the project with producers Larry and Charles Gordon, whose credits range from Watchmen to Die Hard. What do you think of this story? Would you be interesting in seeing this film?
