It’s not the biggest surprise, but it’s official: Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan is returning for the highly-anticipated new season.
Showtime made the announcement concerning MacLachlan’s Twin Peaks return at the network’s Television Critics Association panel on Monday afternoon. The actor walked out on stage to hand Showtime President David Nevins “a damn good cup of coffee. And hot.”

And here’s a photo of MacLachlan suited up for the role:
“I’m very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of Twin Peaks. May the forest be with you,” said the actor.
We also heard today that David Lynch will direct all nine episodes, though that bit of information was previously announced.
MacLachlan plays the show’s lead character Special Agent Dale Cooper, who was (spoiler!) possessed by the end of season 2, which aired way back in June of 1991. It remains to be seen how that twist will play into the upcoming nine-episode run.
The series, which aired on ABC, begins with Dale heading to the town of Twin Peaks to investigate the mysterious murder of teenager Laura Palmer.
Twin Peaks season 3 is slated to premiere in early 2016 and will be set in present day.
