The Walking Dead’s season 6 finale will have plenty of plot lines to cover when it airs this Sunday. Which are we most eager to see?
It’s been a hotly-debated season for TWD, and it looks like it’s going to be that way right until the very end. The penultimate episode titled “East” offered a questionable cliffhanger that may or may not get more stupid in 6×16, “Last Day on Earth.” In fact, it’s question one in our list of burning Qs about the finale:
1) How will the writers write their way out of their latest fake out?
The final few seconds of TWD 6×15 depicted Daryl getting shot by Dwight. Most fans think that Daryl was hit in the shoulder, which would explain how he’d survive the attack, as Dwight hinted he would.
But then, if we know that he’ll survive, why bother giving us this cliffhanger at all? This wasn’t a way to make us anticipate the season finale, because we already know what the outcome will be. The only reason to write this scene is to give Daryl an extra reason to be pissed, so he’ll probably come down harder on Dwight when he inevitably kills him. That’s cool I guess, but again, it didn’t need to be a cliffhanger — especially after fooling us earlier in the season with Glenn.
I want to see Daryl literally snap Dwight in half. That’s the only way this scene will offer the payoff that’s due to viewers.
2) Is Carol coming back? Is Morgan coming back?
Both Carol and Morgan could’ve feasibly been gone for an extended period of time now that the former has hit the road in search of a new life, and the latter has gone searching for her. My guess would’ve been that neither of them will appear in the season 6 finale, because their scenes in 6×15 were suitable end-of-year farewells.
But thanks to AMC’s YouTube page, we know that’s not the case for at least one of them. A clip from the season finale depicts Morgan finding the horse that the mystery man in last Sunday’s episode was looking for:
If Morgan is appearing in the season finale, then it’s very possible that Carol will too. Let’s just hope that word doesn’t get back to Negan about what Carol (or should we say “Nancy?”) did to his men. He won’t be too happy about that.
Unfortunately, one of Carol’s victims survived her attack, so it’s quite possible that word’ll get back to Lucille’s owner. Sighhh.
3) Who is going to die?
Someone’s going to die. There’s no denying it. Negan’s debut is happening in this episode, and he will likely come in swinging. Glenn seems like too obvious a choice to be Lucille’s first victim, so many are thinking it’ll either be Daryl or Maggie who bites the dust. I would’ve thought it’d be one of them too, but they both entered enough trouble in TWD 6×15. Could these two characters really have two awful episodes in a row? Isn’t it bad enough that Maggie appears to be losing her baby, and that Daryl was shot in close range? As I said above, Carol is another one who could be on the chomping block since one of her victims survived the attack.
Abraham is another potential candidate since he died on the train tracks in the comics during the Dwight attack (instead of Denise). But to me, his death wouldn’t be too big a deal. We need someone big to die like Daryl, Glenn, or Maggie.
4) Will there be another cliffhanger? For all that is holy, please do not leave us on another cliffhanger
We’ve been punished as viewers twice this season with poor cliffhangers. First there was Glenn’s over-extended cliffhanger, then there was Daryl’s cliffhanger-wait-no-it’s-not-a-cliffhanger cliffhanger. It’d be really bad if we were left on another cliffhanger at the end of the season 6 finale — especially if we don’t find out who will fall victim to Negan. Believe it or not, the rumor mill is churning with chatter that the show won’t be revealing who Negan attacks. Say it ain’t so!
5) How much airtime will Negan get?
His debut has been teased for weeks. We know we should be really scared of him. So will he appear for a few minutes? Half the episode? The full episode? The longer he’s there the better, in my opinion. It’d suck to only see him for a few minutes and then have to wait until October 2016 to see him again in The Walking Dead season 7. We’ve waited for months — years if you’re a comic reader — and now we want our Negan fill! Even if it means that Rick, Daryl and co. are going to suffer. (Honestly? Rick deserves it. He’s been blissfully ignorant about the Savior situation.)
