30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt duo Tina Fey and Robert Carlock are teaming up once again for the Netflix animated series Mulligan.
The show is created and executive produced by Carlock, and has hired Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt writer and executive producer Sam Means. Tina Fey is on board as an executive producer.
The animated series takes place after an alien attack destroys the earth and centers on what remains of humanity as they work to start society over again from scratch. Essentially, they’ve been given a mulligan — a second chance — hence the name of the show. The show will follow the leftovers of humanity on this journey and see whether the remnants can get things right this time.
Netflix has ordered 20 episodes of the series.
Tina Fey and Robert Carlock have worked on both 30 Rock — which was created by Fey and had Carlock as an executive producer/writer — and the Netflix original Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which was created by the two and had Carlock again as a writer/executive producer. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt ran for four seasons on Netflix and is currently prepping an interactive special.
Mulligan isn’t the only project that Tina Fey and Robert Carlock are working on together, as the two are also responsible for writing and executive producing NBC’s untitled L.A. Mayor comedy series starring Ted Danson, Holly Hunter and Bobby Moynihan.
They are also set to executive produce Girls5Eva, a comedy series for NBCU’s streaming platform Peacock that is about a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90’s that reunites to give their pop star dreams one more shot.
Mulligan writer Sam Means worked on all four seasons of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt with Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. He started out as a producer, and rose to executive producer for the fourth and final season. Means was also an executive story editor for NBC’s 30 Rock and co-producer on Parks and Recreation.
No word yet on when Mulligan will premiere on Netflix.
