Divergent star Theo James, who plays Four, is no stranger to some of your favorite literature.
In a new story for GQ Magazine, the actor says that he had his concerns about joining a young adult book to film adaptation, but he’s no stranger to material that attracts a similar audience.
Talking about when he was growing up, James said, “I probably pretended I was reading, like, Sartre or something, but it was all Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.”
Sadly we don’t know his favorite Potter or Rings books and films – yet.
In related news, James and co-star Shailene Woodley appeared on NBC’s Today Show this morning to discuss the opening of Divergent. The actor spoke about the fight sequences of which there are many. “If you don’t finish a day of stunts with lots of bruises, you feel like you haven’t done it right,” he said with a laugh. “We had about a month and we kind of pushed ourselves beyond the human limit. Kind of, but not really.”
Woodley said of the training, “Both of us were, I think, pretty fit when we started. [Theo] did some boxing before and I had done some other martial art, but we did do a lot of training to learn the correct fight style.”
Adding to the occasion, singer Ellie Goulding performed an acoustic version of her new song for the film titled “Beating Heart.” You can watch below:
Goulding features prominently throughout the film through her own songs and some new vocals she recorded that are mixed in with the score.
Divergent opens in theaters March 21.
