As The Voice season 8 blind auditions continued, was Adam finally able to win over his first contestant?
Season 8 is not starting off very well for Adam Levine. The King of the Four-Chair Turns, and the coach who always goes into the battle rounds with the strongest team, just can’t seem to win. It looks like nobody wants to be on Team Adam this year. He’s turning his chair for lots of talented contestants, some of whom seem to be right up his alley, but they are not choosing Team Adam. He finally got a few promising contestants, and hopefully his success will pick up for the rest of the blinds.
Pharrell, however, is having a great season 8. Though he didn’t win his first time around on The Voice last season, this season’s contestants obviously took note of what a great coach he was, and the great work he did with his team. Pharrell is winning over contestants left and right, even some that he doesn’t expect to choose him. He is looking to fill his team with contestants that represent “other,” and so far, it looks like he’s going to have the strongest team.
Standout Blind Auditions
Gabriel Wolfchild
Gabriel Wolfchild was raised by a very free-spirited family, even allowing him to choose his own name, “Wolfchild.” He’s an indie folk performer, and he chose Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice” for his blind audition, a song that he taught himself after a nasty heartbreak. Wolfchild’s performance was so beautiful, genuine, and heartfelt, that it earned turns from three coaches: Adam, Blake, and Christina. Wolfchild had planned to pick Pharrell, so he was thrown for a bit of a loop, but Christina got the audience behind her, and won Wolfchild over to Team Christina.
Brooke Adee
Brooke Adee fell in love with performing after her dad took her to see Annie when she was little, and she has been performing ever since. She’s been having a hard time after recently moving to a new school without much of a music program, but she’s been performing for tips in restaurants. Brooke blew the judges away with her performance of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love.” She had a beautiful voice, and showed great control over her instrument. Adam and Blake turned around for her, and Adam thought he had it in the bag. But it was another loss for him, as Brooke chose Team Blake.
Tonya Boyd-Cannon
Tonya Boyd-Cannon is 35 years old, and has been in love with music for a long time. She’s using her degree in music education for good, working with a prison choir. She helps prepare inmates for release, providing them with life skills, and tips that will help them to succeed in the outside world. Tonya took a big chance by performing Pharrell’s monster hit “Happy,” right in front of the man himself. But she proved herself with a fun and flawless performance, earning turns from Adam, Pharrell, and Christina. But Adam finally won over his first artist, and what an artist to start with!
Joe Tolo
Joe Tolo has had a tough journey, moving from American Samoa when he was young. He is the youngest of eight children, and when his parents divorced, his father moved back to Samoa, leaving his mother to raise eight children all on her own. He’s always found comfort in music, and that showed in his performance of The BeeGees’ “To Love Somebody.” His performance was fierce, and he hit some incredible high notes. Christina and Blake turned around, and Adam and Pharrell full-out endorsed Christina. She complimented his high note, had him sing it again, and then harmonized with him. No big deal, harmonizing with Xtina. Joe and Christina were obviously a match made in heaven, so he was quick to choose Team Christina.
Season 8’s blind auditions continue next Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. on NBC.
