The Vampire Diaries season 5, episode 7, “Death and the Maiden” has aired. Check out a recap of the episode and chat with fans about what happened!
After our introduction to Amara in last week’s episode, or ‘Crazypants’ as Damon has dubbed her, we were all anxious to see how our favorite characters would react to finding out that the immortal anchor for the veil is no longer immortal.
And with no further ado, the recap:
- Silas, while sitting at a bus stop in Philly, waxes nostalgic about his tumultuous past with Amara and Qetsiyah with a human couple. He decides to kill the man by liquifying his insides and the girl runs away. Silas then hops on a bus to Virginia, supposedly on his way back to Mystic Falls.
- Stefan, having just had nightmares about being locked in the safe underwater, wakes to Elena wanting to make a fresh start between them as friends. He tells Elena that Tessa gave him all his memories back.
- Stefan crushes a glass, demonstrating that he clearly is having trouble coping with having his memories back.
- Amara is still crazy, and is locked away in the infamous Salvatore basement cell.
- Bonnie and Jeremy have a moment. He thanks her for sacrificing herself for him.
- Silas calls Damon from the bus, and refuses to help bring Bonnie back in order to screw Damon over so he has to break his promise to Elena, therefore driving a wedge between the happy couple.
- Nadia pays Katherine a visit at Whitmore College, where she lies to Caroline about Nadia’s identity (Katherine calls Nadia her stylist).
- Elena refuses to give up hope that Silas will bring Bonnie back before he dies, but Stefan is being a realist and is insisting on being the one to dispatch Silas when he arrives to Mystic Falls.
- In a lucid moment, Amara recognizes Jeremy as a hunter, and tells Jeremy that she can see and feel Bonnie. This gives Bonnie a brilliant idea.
- Amara is currently existing in both plains. Jeremy tells Elena and Damon about Bonnie’s newest plan to become the anchor and release Amara from her job.
- In order to do the anchor switcheroo, the Mystic Falls Scooby gang needs Qetsiyah to perform the spell transferring the anchor into Bonnie, so Damon goes to sweet talk the witch.
- Elena and Stefan have a chat, and he tells Elena all about what he is going through, telling her that he needs to kill Silas before he loses his mind and/or turns off his humanity.
- Qetsiyah needs something powerful to bind the anchor transfer to, so, since there are no natural recurrences (ie, full moons, comets, etc) to use, she decides that doppelgangers would do the trick. Damon offers up one of the dozen or so he always has on hand.
- Back at Whitmore College, Katherine and Nadia wrap up their mother-daughter bonding session quickly when Caroline comes to snatch Katherine to use for the anchor switch.
- Damon takes Qetsiyah to see Amara. Amara then begs for Qetsiyah to kill her, as she has learned her lesson. Qetsiyah refuses to do so until after she completes the transfer, to ensure that Silas and Amara will stay apart for eternity.
- All three Amara doppelgangers in one scene is almost too much to take. A little blood from each on Bonnie’s grimoire and Qetsiyah begins binding Bonnie to the Other Side, but Silas shows up in the middle and causes a little chaos.
- The power goes out and when everyone looks around, Qetsiyah and Amara have vanished.
- Silas and Qetsiyah have a showdown in the Salvatore library, during which Stefan calls to say that he stole Amara and will keep her alive indefinitely if Silas doesn’t come find him in 10 minutes.
- Elena finds Qetsiyah with a fire poker in her arm, releases her from the object, and takes her to finish the spell.
- Silas finds Amara in the woods outside the Salvatore mansion, and after she begs him, he begins to draw a knife across her neck, only to be interrupted by Stefan. Silas then begins torturing Stefan, reminding him of his drowning, and about how he was forgotten about for months.
- Stefan kills Silas while Amara watches helplessly, and she takes the knife from Silas and drives it into her stomach. Damon stumbles across her seconds after she does so and panics as he sees her life leaving her, seeing all his hard work to resurrect Bonnie slipping through his fingers. Qetsiyah begins the spell again, and as she does so, Bonnie and Jeremy tell each other that they love each other, and as he touches her face, he realizes he can feel her. The spell has worked and Bonnie is officially the new anchor to the Other Side.
- Elena and Caroline show up as Bonnie begins her life as the anchor, and they have a girl reunion where Caroline starts mumbling about being roommates at school. Lol.
- Qetsiyah refuses to help Katherine, who asked her to help keep her from aging. Qetsiyah kills herself as Katherine watches and she appears to Bonnie, breaking the news that every supernatural that dies has to pass through her and she will feel the pain of every supernatural beings’ death. Ouch.
- Elena talks to Stefan and asks about whether he is okay now that he killed Silas. Stefan tells her that he wanted Damon and Elena to be the ones that saved him from the safe, but it wasn’t.
- Nadia wants Katherine to hit the road with her and trace their path all the way back to Bulgaria, but Katherine refuses since she’s dying, plus she and doesn’t want to relive all that pain.
- While digging Silas’ grave, Stefan remembers drowning over and over again in the safe, and collapses to the ground in pain before saying to himself, “It’s supposed to be over.”
