Find out what Tristan and his Strix comrades had up their sleeves for Marcel in tonight’s episode of The Originals season 3.
Never a dull moment when the Mikaelsons are around, and since we have the first sires to contend with now, that constant stimulation in every moment goes from being exciting to non-stop-manipulation. Check out all the intense moments from tonight’s episode and make sure to let us know your impressions in the comments. With no further ado, here’s the recap of The Originals season 3, episode 4, “A Walk on the Wild Side.”
‘So, what exactly am I walking into tonight?’ –Hayley
Elijah led Hayley quite literally into the lion’s den. The moment they enter the party, every eye is on Elijah, the sire of most of the Strix. Aya makes it sound like a non-stop party, but something smells fishy from the moment Aya spots Marcel. Tristan wants Marcel because he’s hoping to put the war between the Mikaelson brothers’ sire lines to bed. Good luck with that, Tristan, although we’re certain you have other reasons.
Not long into the party, Eljiah sees Marcel and knows exactly what’s going on. It’s not just a party; it’s an initiation. Moments later a number of ladies enter the room in some creepy white masks. Marcel’s test? Someone stole his daylight ring right off his finger, and he has to figure out who did it, and reclaim it. Thanks a lot, Tristan. As if Marcel needed one more person making his afterlife hell.
‘My God, it’s a room full of Elijahs.’ –Lucien
Lucien and Klaus discover that, thanks to Freya’s locator spell, Alexis, Lucien’s seer, has been whisked away by Tristan. Their big plan includes crashing the party with a bunch of masked and wig-wearing ladies, and making a bunch of jokes about this being a room full of Elijahs. Not gonna lie, it had us laughing more than just a little.
Their antics bring the party to a crashing halt. Elijah quickly catches on that Klaus is not nearly as drunk as he’s pretending. He insults them all, then he and Lucien leave the way they came. Since they didn’t raise much trouble, Tristan and his cult let them leave in peace.
‘Like you said, I am a Mikaelson.’ –Freya
Freya sneaks into a room away from the party and discovers Alexis drinking and relaxing all by herself. She doesn’t look the prisoner she’s supposed to be. She lets Freya in on her little secret. She saw the future clearly, and she saw exactly how Klaus will fall. She seems to have abandoned ship before it was too late to save her own skin. Loyal one, Alexis.
Seconds after they meet, Alexis proves her skill and kisses Freya to share her vision of her death. The vision shows Freya dying buried alive in a wooden box. Rather than stand there and continue to be berated by the witch, Freya punches her in the face. Cue cheers from the peanut gallery.
‘Aya. Aya took my ring.’ –Marcel
Marcel correctly identifies his ring thief, even after Tristan moves the deadline up an hour. After naming his pickpocket, he also states that she passed it off to Mohinder, the warrior she introduced Marcel to earlier in the party that only drinks the blood of the vampires he defeats in combat. He’s basically the opposite of a Ripper.
Marcel must now defeat Mohinder and get his ring back. The battle begins, but doesn’t start off as Marcel would have liked. Marcel isn’t without skill, and he gets a few good hits in, but Mohinder does the majority of the beating. Just as he is about to be staked, Marcel gets a second wind and gives the beating back. Mohinder drinks Marcel’s blood in the moment before he delivers the death blow. Marcel laughs with mirth as he shows the bite Hayley gave him, infecting his blood with wolf venom, which then infested Mohinder’s blood as well. Tristan rips Mohinder’s heart from his body to finish the deal.
‘Whoever comes for you, comes for me. That’s all I need to know.’ –Marcel
Marcel tells Klaus why he went after the Strix in the first place. He knows that if someone kills Klaus, they are killing him too, so if he’s a part of the Strix, he can be of service. At least, that’s what it sounded like. Anyway, Klaus gives him his blood, and Marcel is on the mend.
After Marcel and Klaus’ discussion, Alexis holds court with the Mikaelsons and Lucien in the courtyard. She is ready and willing to share her knowledge of what will kill Klaus, but as soon as Elijah and Hayley bite into her wrists to see the vision, they both see a flurry of images, followed by the pain of poison. Alexis dies in Lucien’s arms before anything could be done to save her.
While we watch Elijah and Hayley discuss things like what she’s going to tell Hope to explain their family dynamic someday, and what exactly she thought of Tristan, we see who poisoned Alexis. You see, Elijah is suspicious that Tristan would go anywhere without his little sister, and that little sister is exactly the culprit for Alexis’ death. Whether she was acting on her own or acting as Tristan’s assassin is still unknown, but as Tristan has blamed Alexis’ death on Lucien wanting to cover his tracks, the Mikaelsons won’t rest until they know full well who is behind all these manipulations: Tristan or Lucien.
‘Your words are no more compelling than his. I want proof.’ –Elijah
This statement, uttered by Elijah to his progeny, Tristan, makes us reevaluate as to whether Klaus or Elijah would make the better sire. While Elijah is the calm, cool, and collected one, he’s also the calculated one. He doesn’t react to things, he pre-acts. Klaus is a hothead, but he’s unswervingly loyal to those that don’t give him reason to be otherwise. Who would you pick to be your vampire-life’s blood?
