‘The Originals’ season 2, episode 21 recap
Rebekah has Davina and Vincent present in the graveyard to help her unlink herself from the other witches. She wants to be free of them so their survival will not depend on hers anymore.
Mary informs Hayley that she knows some herbs that when burned will reveal if magic is in use nearby. When she burns the herbs she sees that the storm is unnatural. Hayley takes this to heart, and goes to tell her pack that it will be safer for all of them if she, Jackson, and Hope run… alone. The pack insists on accompanying her anyway.
After they discover Klaus’ body is not in the coffin, daggered, Rebekah calls Cami. While she doesn’t think she’s going to be of much help, Cami agrees to try.
Freya has prepared her spell, and as long as they can lure Dahlia into the killing zone, Dahlia will be mortal. Freya then hands Elijah Mikael’s knife to use as a poetic end for Dahlia. Elijah senses a visitor and vamp runs to find Gia entering the premises. She’s upset about Josephine’s death, and when Elijah orders her away, she doesn’t take the news well. He kisses her, but still insists she leave.
Klaus goes to Marcel’s loft to get something from him. Marcel awakes strung upside down from the ceiling. He’s been bleeding the vervain from him, and now that his system is free of the herb, he is perfect for Klaus’ uses. Gia is also there, unconscious, and Klaus intends to use her as well.
Hayley, Jackson, Hope and crew continue their trek to safety. Hayley is tired of watching people suffer for her, and put themselves in danger for her. Jackson reminds her that family is exactly that: People who will stand by you no matter what.
Rebekah enacts the spell and all the Mikaelsons are at their posts. Dahlia shows up, and Freya tells her that she betrayed her siblings to bring Hope to that location. Freya only asks for her freedom in return for Hope. Dahlia reminds her that Hope is already hers, but will give Freya a chance to explain.
Vincent calls a meeting of witches to talk them into making Davina regent. She makes a very compelling argument that she, and she alone, knows exactly what they are up against. She knows how to bring safety to the witches in New Orleans.
Dahlia continues to take one step at a time closer to Freya, but has yet to enter the killing field. She gets close, but just as she is about to become mortal, Marcel (having been compelled by Klaus) takes down Rebekah, thereby ending the spell. Freya watches as the gollum in her hands crumbles to dust, and Dahlia is more angry than ever. Freya grabs Dahlia and yanks her into the killing field, calling for Elijah to act, but Klaus intercepts him before he can take out the witch.
Elijah and Klaus have a full out brawl on the balcony of their compound, while Dahlia confronts Freya about her betrayal. Dahlia takes the opportunity to punish Freya by putting her back into the trance that will keep her sleeping for 100 years.
Klaus holds Elijah captive against the balcony railing as Gia takes off her daylight ring while standing downstairs. Elijah is forced to watch as Gia bursts into flames and dies. Klaus then comments that he should “see what he has in store for Hayley,” and Elijah loses his mind. Klaus stabs Elijah in the chest, but before he can do more than hurt him, Cami shows up to remind Klaus of who he truly is.
Cami believes that Klaus won’t hurt her, and despite her insistence to that fact, Klaus drinks her blood and she collapses to the floor as Dahlia watches.
Klaus orders Marcel to use deadly force against Rebekah if she doesn’t stay as he has instructed. Dahlia then tells Klaus that she needs his blood to track Hope since her magic is still cloaked.
Jackson, Hayley and company have crossed the river and are holed up in a junkyard for the night. Hayley wants Jackson to know that despite whatever may happen in the future, she loves him.
Klaus shows up at the junkyard and Jackson orders Hayley to get Hope and Mary and run. Jackson’s eyes glow as he prepares to take on Klaus, and then we see Hayley with Mary and Hope. They pass by the burning herbs and see that the smoke is red, signaling to Hayley that Dahlia has arrived. She tells Mary to take Hope and get her as far away as possible. Hayley refuses to leave her people behind to suffer.
Rebekah knows Klaus would never want her dead. So, she insists to Marcel that if she dies, she will awaken in her Original body. Marcel pleads with her not to try this because he doesn’t want to hurt her. She then takes Mikael’s knife and plunges it into her own throat, to spare Marcel the task of killing her.
Klaus has asked Dahlia to cast the Crescent Wolf Curse on Hayley and her people, trapping them in wolf form at all times except for the full moon. This includes Mary, who has run with Hope, and starts to turn just outside the vehicle.
Davina accepts the role of regent in a ceremony in the graveyard. She declares, “Here and now begins the time of the witches.”
Cami wakes, and we see that Klaus gave her orders before he bit her. She picks up the knife and proceeds to stab Elijah in the heart, then stick her hand in his chest, which instantly awakens him. Cami tells Elijah that this is all a trick, and that Klaus needed Dahlia to trust him.
Klaus tells Dahlia to link herself to him, because he does not want Hope to fall victim to the sleeping spell that Dahlia has been cursed with for centuries. He is an immortal hybrid and therefore should be more than enough power for her to channel in order to break the sleeping curse. Once she has done that, then he is more than happy to allow her to link herself to Hope. Or so he says.
The last shot of the episode shows Cami explaining to Elijah that Klaus told her Dahlia’s secret. Cami knows how to kill Dahlia.
