While Klaus was busy trying to get his hands on the last remaining White Oak from Cami, Elijah was challenging Aya to get back control of those he sired in The Originals season 3, episode 12.
Tonight’s episode of The Originals delivered not one, not two, but three pretty sizable surprises. One has us giggling with glee, one has us frightfully concerned, and the last has us pondering what it could mean for the future. Check out what each of the big surprises is below and let us know which you think will play the biggest role in the rest of The Originals season 3.
Vampire cage match
It wouldn’t be an episode of The Originals if everything happened as we expected it to. Just when we thought Elijah was going to gain control of the Strix, Marcel jumped in and stole the Strix charter right out from under them. After a citywide game of hide and seek, Marcel manages to keep control of the charter long enough to become the Strix’s new leader. After a rousing speech, Marcel convinces even Aya to bow to his leadership. We can only imagine that Josh will be joining soon, right? The poor kid doesn’t need any more trouble, but Marcel could probably use a trusted right hand man.
But, SURPRISE! Elijah never intended to lead the Strix. He and Marcel cooked this up to get Marcel control of the Strix so they have mutual reasons to keep both Mikaelson brothers alive. Marcel consults Aya for advice about how he can lead this group through the threat of the prophecy.
Witch for hire
In the episode’s second surprise, the lead witch of the Strix coven, who was capable of putting both Klaus and Cami out of commission and sneak away with the White Oak trinket, wasn’t working for Aya.
When she dove into Davina’s mind to find where the White Oak was, Davina was able to see into her mind as well. Davina learned a VERY valuable fact. This Sister wasn’t working for the Strix any longer. She was desperate to find a way out, and had put her freedom in Aurora’s hands. Needless to say, Aurora didn’t care at all for the witch’s fate, and as soon as she had the White Oak in hand, Aurora drank her dry. For anyone keeping count, that’s two Strix Sisters down, and like…four to go? They sure are dropping like flies for being such a ‘powerful’ coven.
Another bombshell
Just when we thought we had seen all the surprises one episode could contain, we find out that Aya has a secret. She didn’t just recruit Davina to be a Sister for just any reason. Oh, no. Davina, alongside the other Sisters, can help sever the connection between the vampires and their sires, meaning that if a Mikaelson were taken down, their entire line would no longer be at risk. This fact changes EVERYTHING.
If the sire lines are no longer bound to the lifeforce of the Original that gave them life, things could get messy quickly.
Now, if Elijah can’t get control of the vampires-only organization, we can’t think of a better person to have in charge. We certainly don’t trust Aya, especially after learning all about her history with Elijah.
One last important fact
The last thing we should all find disturbing is that Aurora didn’t use the trinket to fashion a stake. Oh, no. She utilized the services of a master craftsman to fashion a series of wooden bullets. The Mikaelsons are about to be hunted by a vicious and bloodthirsty adversary.
