A new trailer for George Clooney’s The Monuments Men premiered in front of showings of Captain Phillips last night and is now available online.
The online premiere of the trailer was on Yahoo, but we’ve embeded the YouTube version that Sony uploaded.
The trailer shows just how impressive the cast is. The Monuments Men stars George Clooney (who also directed, produced, and co-wrote), Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin and more. Blanchett gets the line of the trailer with “How can I help you steal out stolen art?”
As the plot is about putting together a team to go into the war to steal art, the common joke has been that the movie is basically “Saving Private Ocean.”
With a movie with such a stellar cast as this, it should be expected that the camaraderie will be pretty high among the team. The short bit we see from Bill Murray in the trailer suggests that everything doesn’t always go smoothly and that they’ll likely butt heads with each other.
Here’s the official plot summary:
Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, “The Monuments Men” is an action-thriller focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.
