If you haven’t watched the past two episodes of The Mindy Project, you must catch up before reading how the couple – and show – can proceed!
Alright, so with Annette’s revelation last week, we all now know the truth: Mindy Lahiri is pregnant! Sure, we love that the world will soon have a Lahiri-Castellano baby that all at once loves and loathes pop culture, but we urge The Mindy Project writers: tread lightly.
Here, we pose the questions and concerns we have about Mindy and Danny embarking on parenthood together.
1) Where will they live?
Mindy has been in San Francisco these past few months. And she has been loving it. Danny seems pretty adamant about staying in New York City. Unless they plan on raising a baby who racks up more air miles in its first year than the average American, they’ll need to commit to one coast or another sometime in the next six months.
2) Will they get married?
Danny, as we saw last week and have known all along, is a devout Catholic. The sheer fact that he’s having a baby out of wedlock might not sit well with him or Annette. One way or another, we have a feeling Danny might at least try to propose to Mindy. Whether or not she accepts is different thing.
3) How will a baby change the show?
This question is mostly for the writers and producers behind The Mindy Project. The show is, as well-established, a sit-com-rom, set in an office setting. A kid doesn’t really fit in with that atmosphere, and we can’t imagine they’d pull a Parks and Recreation and time-jump three years in the future to avoid diapers.
4) Can they turn back the clock?
It’s the third season, but after a bumpy season 1, we’re kind of surprised the show decided to jump into this pool so fast. We applaud them, but considering they can’t really turn around at this point, we also urge them to proceed with caution.
If they can’t balance a baby storyline with the rest of what makes the show so good (its simply enjoyable office banter, the occasional off-the-rails plot) we’re afraid the overall quality could suffer significantly.
What do you think will happen to ‘The Mindy Project’ with a baby added to the mix?
The Mindy Project airs on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. on Fox.
