The Leftovers season 2 is not concerned with who you live with, but rather where you live. Reconnect with the Garvey’s as they try to figure out where they need to be.
The Murphy family gave us the first look at Miracle aka Jarden, Texas in the premiere episode of The Leftovers season 2. But tonight the Garvey family inches back into focus as the clock winds back to the morning after the Guilty Remnant’s violent final stand in Mapleton, NY.
The opening of The Leftovers season 2 painted an outline of what to expect as the narrative begins to fill in the more intricate details. The cold open, set in prehistoric Jarden, TX, displayed a series of ominous events including symbolic circling hawks, earthquakes, and the cycle of the abandoned finding refuge in the custody of others. Jumping ahead to present day, the Murphy family and their various roles in Miracle spin another tale. For the Murphys, and many other permanent residents, to live in Jarden is to walk a fine line between their own reality and the image the world projects on the town that suffered no loss on October 14.
Reverend Matt Jamison already made his way down to Texas where his mission is to keep Jarden in their “chosen people” bubble and not offer any outsider tales of the Great Departure. The Leftovers season 2, episode 2 will see what led Jill, Kevin, Nora, and baby Lily make the same decision to leave Mapleton behind and find a fresh start.
One big push to get away may have something to do with the recently exhumed corpse of Patti Levin. Kevin Garvey can run, but he cannot get away from his past that easily.
The Leftovers season 2, episode 2, “A Matter of Geography,” airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO.
