Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, and it’s bound to get you even more excited for the forthcoming prequel to hit the internet later on this summer!

Based on Jim Henson’s 1982 feature film, the upcoming prequel series finds the world of Thra in mortal peril. The Crystal of Truth — a source of untold power — has been damaged and corrupted by the evil Skeksis, causing a sickness to spread across the land.

When three Gelfling (voiced by Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nathalie Emmanuel) uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

The series unveiled the stunning new trailer via Twitter: “The journey begins as darkness rises. The #DarkCrystal: Age of Resistance premieres August 30 on @netflix.”

The trailer sets up the upcoming quest by giving us a glimpse of the moment Deet (Emmanuel) finds out about what’s happening and the horrors that could follow should the three Gelflling not succeed.

From there, the trailer plunges into a montage, offering viewers a glimpse of quite a few characters on both sides of the battle.

And speaking of the characters we’ll meet in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Netflix has lined up an impressive star-studded cast who’ll be lending their voices to the forthcoming series.

Caitriona Balfe (Outlander), Helena Bonham-Carter (Harry Potter), Harris Dickinson (Maleficent 2), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Eddie Izzard (Ocean’s 13), Theo James (Divergent), Toby Jones (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beauty and the Beast), Mark Strong (Kingsman), and Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider) are all on board to voice Gelfling characters.

Meanwhile, Harvey Fierstein (Torch Song), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Jason Isaacs (The OA), Ralph Ineson (Game of Thrones), Keegan Michael Key (Key and Peele), Olafur Darri Olafsson (True Detective), Simon Pegg (Mission Impossible), and Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) are all on board to voice various members of the Skeksis and Mystics.
