Matt Reeve’s The Batman has found its Commissioner Gordon in none other than Emmy Award winner Jeffrey Wright.

Update (October 31): Director Matt Reeve has confirmed in a tweet that Wright will take on the role:

Original Story (September 23): Casting for Matt Reeve’s highly anticipated take on the caped crusader is well under way— and it looks as though The Batman may have just cast another big role!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Jeffrey Wright is currently in negotiations to join the forthcoming Batman flick.

Wright, who currently stars on HBO’s Westworld is circling the role of Commissioner Jim Gordon.

As fans of the Caped Crusader know all too well, Commissioner Gordon works for Gotham City’s police department and is one of Batman’s main allies.

He’s also, of course, in charge with lighting up the famous Bat Signal whenever Gotham’s law enforcement finds itself in need of Batman’s help protecting the city from various foes.

If Wright signs on, he’ll be the latest big name to take up the mantle of portraying the law enforcement official.

Others who’ve played the role before him include Pat Hingle (Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher’s Batman films), Gary Oldman (Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy), and most recently J.K. Simmons (Zack Snyder’s Justice League)

In addition, Jeffrey Wright would join previously announced cast member Robert Pattinson, who earlier this summer, was announced to have officially scored the role of the titular vigilante himself.

Director Matt Reeves’ The Batman won’t be hitting theaters until June 25, 2021, but fans won’t have to wait that long to catch Wright back in acton on the big screen.

Coming up next, the actor is set to star in the highly anticipated next installment of the James Bond franchise (2020). In addition, he can also be seen in director Wes Anderson’s forthcoming film, The French Dispatch (2020).

Currently, fans can catch him starring opposite Ansel Elgort in the bit screen adaptation of The Goldfinch, in theaters now.
