The Team StarKid Apocalyptour has finally hit California, marking the first West Coast performances for the troupe since their first-ever informal appearance at the Azkatraz convention in 2009, and to mark their arrival StarKid have announced that acclaimed poet and rapper George Watsky will be opening the show in his hometown of San Francisco.
George Watsky will perform his own set alongside the tour’s support act Charlene Kaye and the Brilliant Eyes for one night only, at San Francisco’s Nob Hill Masonic Center on Friday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m.
From Team StarKid’s press release:
A San Francisco native, Watsky is a Brave New Voices National Poetry Slam champion whose quirky, funny, and honest lyrics have netted him over 44 million online views and counting. He has appeared on “Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry” and “Funny as Hell” on HBO, “Last Call with Carson Daly,” and the “Ellen Degeneres Show,” twice. George’s debut album “Watsky,” cracked the iTunes hip hop chart Top 10, and he was recently confirmed for the Rock the Bells Festival Series in Los Angeles (August 18 & 19), San Francisco (August 25 & 26), and New York (September 1 & 2). His latest EP, “Watsky & Mody,” featured a collaboration with StarKid ensemble member and fellow San Francisco native, Dylan Saunders.
We loved George Watsky’s cover of “Man of Constant Sorrow” (from O, Brother, Where Art Thou?) featuring high school friend Dylan Saunders, and the two paired up on-stage to perform the number when Watsky did an opening set for the Silver Spring, MD date of the 2011 StarKid SPACE Tour.
