There’s a lot that’s been said about Taylor Swift’s reputation, but now, the singer is back to settle the score the best way she knows how: through song.
It’s been a long three years for Swifties who’ve been waiting with baited breath for their queen to return with new music after the success of 2014’s 1989. Now, after nearly a week of cryptic posts via Twitter and Instagram, the wait is officially over!

The country-crooner-turned-pop-star dropped the first single off her forthcoming album, Reputation, on Thursday night (August 24) and if the social media buzz is anything to go by, Swift has got another instant hit on her hands.
Our initial reaction to Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” is that the singer’s first single is definitely a bop with a bite.
Though it continues the pop narrative Swift stepped into in 1989, “Look What You Made Me Do” is darker and edgier in all the right ways. There’s a tantric backbeat sure to make you want to get up and dance that runs through the whole track, but it’s the lyrics that stick out.

Though we’ve been given a taste of what Taylor intends to bring us with album number six, there’s no telling whether “Look What You Made Me Do” truly is indicative of what we can expect from Reputation as a whole when it drops.
With 1989, Swift delivered the world a cohesive album that was deeply rooted in ’80s pop influence. The gamble to stick with one specific sound — and work with a small team of producers that helped her hone the vision — certainly paid off. In fact, you could easily argue that the cohesiveness of the album was a huge factor in scoring her the coveted Album of the Year Grammy.
Though it would make sense to wager that she’ll do the same with Reputation, the truth of the matter is we’ll have to wait to see how “Look What You Made Me Do” falls in line with the rest of the record when it releases later this year.
Either way, we’ll be counting down the days until Reputation’s wide release and can’t wait to see how the singer’s next offering stacks up against her past albums.
Taylor Swift’s Reputation drops worldwide on November 10.
