After a week hiatus, everyone comes out swinging tonight on Suits season 4, episode 4, “Leveraged.” But who actually makes a hit? Check out our recap!
“Leveraged,” as the title of this recap suggests, was about these characters making some bad choices and then trying to recover and fix their mistakes. Some were successful; others, less so.
As Donna walks through Sidwell Investment Group, she stands out as a redhead among the black, beige, white and grey that don the halls. She is furious Mike betrayed her and their private conversations. To make up for it, he sends her a snazzy Balenciaga bag, which she accepts, but not without a sharp-tongued goodbye. Maybe Donna resents Mike a little for leaving not just the firm, but her as well.
Jonathan brings Mike into his office to chastise him for spending more money than was originally allocated for this takeover of Willis Industries. Even though Mike was within his right to do so, Mike is fearful of Jonathan’s wrath until he yells “gotcha” (not literally) and says he’s proud of the work Mike did. But they need to find another investor in a week, otherwise Mike Ross is out of a job. Investment banking seems like a strange business.
Jeff says Harvey “poked the bear,” but Eric isn’t the bear, Jessica is! She tells Harvey to back off the case – this case is Jeff’s sole purpose at the firm. Sean Cahill (Neal McDonough) – not Eric Woodall – is the snake coming after Pearson Specter. Eric was the red herring. Harvey is told to take a knee and his facial expression indicates he is not happy about that.
Let’s talk about Mike’s secretary Amy for a second. This is the most screen time she’s had in Suits season 4. Her wit and snark are there, but her wardrobe is not Donna-level yet (or even Rachel), but she’s trying and growing into her role.
Amy puts Mike in his place when he acts high and mighty with her, and she helps him solve his problem by reminding him why Jonathan brought him to the company in the first place.
The actress, Melanie Papalia, has an impressive IMDb list, most credits hailing from her native land, Canada, but she did have a guest role on Supernatural season 1. What do you guys think of her so far? We think she looks a little bit like Idina Menzel and look forward to seeing her more in Suits.
Logan comes to Rachel asking for her to evaluate which companies would be a lucrative next deal for him. Logan tests her, asking, “Are you my lawyer or not?” and she accepts it, convinced this is just a ploy to spend more time with her.
Harvey bursts into Louis’ office looking for help, and Louis is on point tonight. Answering every demand Harvey has before he asks for it, he then quotes The Karate Kid and Harvey flicks Louis’ tie in an act of defiance, to his surprise.
Sean Cahill: “Welcome to the SEC, we target law firms!” Sean is a malicious man who is out for the blood of law firms all over New York City. The case he has against Pearson Specter is just one of the dozen, and they’re not specifically targeted like initially thought.
Jeff, it turns out, was about to be fired, because he refused to go after Jessica and instead wanted to help her. Is this suspicious? Maybe. It certainly doesn’t help their case. Jessica calmly tells Jeff he isn’t walking into negations with a babysitter, he’s walking into war with a bazooka. They need to be ready for anything.
Louis gets thrown for a loop when Mike informs him right outside the courtroom that Sheila is engaged to an incredibly handsome man. The picture on Facebook turns out to be doctored and it cost Louis the case, Harvey’s respect and potentially his future at the firm. Mike might say he’s sorry about how he hurt Louis, but the complete lack of sincerity behinds his words makes us think otherwise.
Thankfully – we’re pulling for Louis, here! – Louis gives Mike a taste of his own medicine, screwing up Mike’s meeting with a potential investor. Donna wants Harvey to tell Louis he did a good job for fixing the mistake that he created. Is it that hard to give some reaffirmation to the man, Harvey?
Harvey to Louis: “I don’t want to keep being mad at you, but you keep doing the same shit.” Louis’ emotions have constantly been his downfall, and yet, he tearfully wonders why he’s so hated.
By the end of the episode, both Mike and Rachel apologize for the mistakes they’ve made throughout “Leveraged.” Mike apologies to Louis and wants them to move past Mike’s low blow, and Rachel goes to Logan apologizing for not taking his request seriously.
Just when they think they‘re out of the woods, Sean Cahill pulls them back in. He’s going to Harvey’s clients, asking for dirt about Harvey.
Rachel, meanwhile, is wading in the deep waters of spending time with old flames. She’s centimeters from locking lips with Logan when she stops herself. She’s completely unsure about her decision, of course, and can feel those old emotions hitting her like a brick wall.
In the end, they all make a choice: Rachel leaves Logan, Mike closes the deal and is back in Jonathan’s good graces, and Jessica goes to Jeff’s house, rekindling their relationship.
What do you think about the promo for next week’s episode?
