Suicide Squad 2 has officially found its director in Gavin O’Connor.
Variety reports that The Accountant helmer Gavin O’Connor has officially been tapped by Warner Bros. to direct upcoming Suicide Squad sequel, Suicide Squad 2.
The director will be pulling double duty as Vareity reports O’Connor will also be writing the script for the sequel.
Suicide Squad 2 plot details are few and far between at the moment, but one thing we do know is that the film will reunite the likes of Will Smith, Jared Leto, and Margot Robbie, all of whom are set to return to reprise their roles as Deadshot, The Joker, and Harley Quinn.
Now that the film has officially found a director and writer in O’Connor, we’re sure more details surrounding the plot of the film will surface once production officially starts next year.
Given the success the first Suicide Squad received at the box office, many were wondering of Warner Bros., would figure out a way to bring director David Ayer back to spearhead the sequel. Instead we learned back in December of 2016 that Ayer had decided to focus his attention on bringing Gotham City Sirens to the big screen.
The upcoming DC entity is set to reunite Ayer with Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie who will reprise her role as Harley Quinn. Gotham City Sirens will also find The Joker’s better half joining forces with two other infamous Gotham baddies: Poison Ivy and Catwoman.
Between Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens, it looks like we’d better start bracing ourselves to see a lot more of our favorite Gotham City villains take center stage on the big screen!
Suicide Squad 2 is expected to be released in theaters sometime in 2019.
